CONCERNING RISKS/SIDE EFFECTS OF PAIN MANAGEMENT/SPINAL INJECTIONS

The procedures we offer at Georgia Pain Specialists, LLC are safe generally speaking, and are administered by a triple board-certified pain specialist and anesthesiologist who has been in the field for over 25 years. As with any medical procedure, however, there are some side effects which may occur. The most common and usually temporary side effects include pain and soreness or bruising at or around the injection site. Some uncommon/rare risks and side effects include increase in blood sugar in diabetics, water retention, weight gain, suppression of the body’s own natural production of cortisone, and worsening of symptoms. Extremely rare side effects/complications include possible infection, risk of spinal puncture with headaches, nerve damage, and bleeding inside the epidural space.
